Learn a Dance -- Or Just Watch Some Kids Do It!

Kat De Luna, recording artist extraordinaire, has a new single out called "Push Push" that is completely infectious. It's perfect for this time of year when it's just starting to get warm. Even better than a new jam, though, is a new dance to accompany the new jam -- and video of a bunch of kids doing it better than we ever will. Check out the actual dance in the first video, and then a bunch of little girls shaking their miniature groove things in the second.

From NY Magazine - How to Give Birth (..in a Comedy)

From New York Magazine:

"...if there's anything we've learned from sweeps sitcom episodes and movies like Nine Months and Knocked Up, it's that childbirth can be a scary process, what with all the panicky dads passing out and the screaming of "GET ME THE DRUGS!" And so, after carefully consulting some of pop culture's most famous births, we've compiled a helpful video slideshow...called What to Expect When You're Expecting in a Comedy."

Click on over to go through the slideshow of totally hysterical comedy cliches about what giving birth is like (from the hormonal shirt grab to the "beatific presentation" of the new baby) and revel in the fact that giving birth might suck a little bit...but not as bad as sit-coms do.

NY Magazine Turns up the Heat!

New York Magazine's blog Daily Intel has an absolutely addictive feature called "New York Sex Diaries," where one anonymous New Yorker dishes all of the dirty details of their romances/hook-ups/total dating failures. The content is racy (fair warning!) but the real pleasure comes in snooping through the love lives of people you'll never meet.

If your Monday is as boring as ours, click on over to the magazine for the most honest and funny description of a pregnant woman's sex life we've ever read -- and then read through the archives to live vicariously through the others!

Adventures in Mommyland!

This is the first in what we hope will be a series of interviews with real life moms, talking about their real life adventures raising kids. (Know any awesome mamas we should interview? E-mail us at moodymamasblog@gmail.com and put us in touch!)

Elise Rosemarin, co-founder of Moody Mamas, recently interviewed Liz Wickstrom, a 28 year old stay at home mom who just brought home her third baby, Claire Elizabeth Wickstrom. Elise talked to her a little bit about what it's like to be a superstar mom to a newborn and two toddlers.

ER: Congrats on the new baby! Are you home yet?

LW: Yes! Back to reality!

ER: How are you feeling? I love the name you picked out, Claire Elizabeth... sounds very regal...

LW: Ha, thanks. I feel great, kinda tired. First night was rough!

ER: I bet! Did you have a c-section or...

LW: Normal! Got my epidural at 3, had her at 5:10!

ER: Wow! That's awesome. You are amazing...do you have help right now?

LW: Yes, the hubby is on big kid duty and my mom is here helping with laundry and cleaning.

ER: I'm happy that you are getting some much deserved help! Just saw a pic of the new baby and the fam--you look great. Was the third time the charm, ie. was it easier this time around?

LW: The labor/delivery was. The pregnancy was rough! It was hard having energy for the older kids!

ER: I bet. I hope you are getting to relax now.

LW: Yeah....Jared just took the kids to the zoo so it is nap time. Got to get some rest while they are out!

ER: Ok! Enjoy the nap!

The Wonders of Toilet Training

We know that most of our clients are too preoccupied with the arrival of their babies to consider how things are going to work when those babies are old enough to talk, walk, etc., but this Japanese potty training video is too good not to show off now. If you thought "Everybody Poops" was a classic in the genre, wait until you see this video:

For Friday: Parents Are Cool!

If we were to write a Moody Mamas Manifesto (Mamafesto?), we believe in a few things: that pregnant women deserve to look as chic and sexy in maternity clothes as they did in their regular wardrobe; that pregnancy is a time to be celebrated; and most importantly, that motherhood doesn't mean forgetting your life pre-baby.

Nerve has an adorable story today called "Before You Were Born" that features a writer interviewing his parents about the adventures they had before he was even a twinkle in his mom or dad's eye. This couple (dating in the 1970s) walked from Pennsylvania to Wisconsin both for the adventure of it and as a test of their relationship. The story will make you go "aw," but even better, it's a reminder that our parents were pretty cool -- just like current moms-to-be.

Troy the Owlet!

This is an adorable story about an abandonded owl raised by humans who thinks he's a human. Proof positive that it's tricky to raise a baby of any species -- but at least you'll never have to climb a tree and convince yours it's okay to jump.

A Book You'll Love!

This is not your mother's book about pregnancy and motherhood. From Amazon:

For Maggie Lamond Simone, sarcasm was always a means of survival and words her weapon of choice. Her second-grade teacher worried about a child so flippant at such a tender age. Twenty years later, as a police officer escorted a drunken Simone away from the car she had just wrecked, she asked him to drop her not at home but at the bar where her friends waited. He didn’t laugh and she quit drinking the next day. When she finally came up for air a few years later, she was afraid that she wouldn’t be funny without the alcohol, but had a startling revelation: she wasn’t funny in the first place—the world was. So she started writing about it. This collection of her columns and essays addresses dating, marriage, pregnancy, motherhood and menopause with a caustic wit and a healthy disrespect for perfection.

No April Fools--Just Funny Infants!

The people at Funny or Die are humor experts. They're humor artists. They're humor geniuses. Unfortunately, every professional comedian on the site pales in comparison to the acting chops of the baby in this Will Ferrell short.

(Also, click the link at the bottom for an amazing video of a baby dancing to Beyonce's "Single Ladies." May all of the expectant moody mamas out there have children with moves as slick.)
