Another actress has announced she's got a baby on the way! CSI: Miami star Emily Procter is expecting a child with her hubby Paul Bryan. According to E!: "As for now, the 41-year-old is keeping mum on a due date and the sex of the baby, though she's aware of both."

Also in mom/entertainment news, can you imagine a better screen dream team than Tina Fey and Meryl Streep? They've apparently signed on as a mother/daughter duo in a comedy called "Mommy & Me," which will be directed by Stanley Tucci! Can we reserve tickets now? Who else do you think might make a great mother/daughter movie team? How about Pam Anderson and Heidi Montag?

Never Cross a New Mom!

People have compared moms to lionesses (or grizzlies) forever, and they mean to evoke the sense of fierce pride and protection a mother feels for her baby, and for motherhood itself. In other words: NEVER p*ss off a new mom! Click the link below to see what happens when a restaurant takes an ignorant stance on breastfeeding.

Twitter Party!

The countdown is on - go RSVP to a Twitter party at our friend Survival4Moms' Facebook page:

As they explain on their site (and click on over for more info!):

When there’s a baby on the way the questions are endless and the shopping list is just as long! There’s just so much to learn and so much essential survival equipment needed for the new arrival, not to mention what’s needed for yourself – maternity clothes, nursing bras, daily cartons of Ben & Jerry’s….

The shopping is fun, but expensive! Besides the must-haves there’s so much cute baby-gear that’s just too hard to resist. And it never ceases to amaze me how many ingenious products there are out there designed to make a rookie mom’s life easier, some of which have been designed by the real experts – other moms.

For Friday, Some Fun With Words!

Webster, we love ya, but you've got nothing on UrbanDictionary.com!

Where do you go when you need a new way to describe the same old thing? Urban Dictionary. Where can you find approximately 2,000 ridiculous euphemisms for the horizontal mambo? Urban Dictionary.

They've also got some truly funny mom-related phrases we'd like to get out there and circulating. See if you can use these in a sentence today!

Momager
a teen actor or singer's manager who is also their mother
Example: Lohan also appeared on Healthy Kids, a children's health show, along with Dina Lohan, her momager.

Mom jeans
jeans highlighting the flat curvature of the 40+ buttocks. Similes: upside-down-heart shaped-butt. Commonly seen accompanied by front butt. Extremely high waist, and always a crappy shade of blue or black. Usually found in Kohl's or Mervyn's.
Example: "Susie, now that you've had 10 kids, lets get you into some mom jeans..."

Mombie
a woman who has a child and becomes a different person than she was before; her conversations all revolve around toilet training, feeding schedules, and the occasional housework; so-called because there's a certain glazed look in the eyes and she appears to have been brainwashed
Example: Dana used to be pretty cool and loved talking about politics. Since she had her baby, though, she's a total Mombie--I asked what she thought of Obama and she looked at me blankly and asked if that was a type of stroller.

Mom arm
when you automatically throw your free arm across the body of the passenger in your car when you come to a quick, unexpected stop
Example: Sorry about the mom arm, I didn't realize that jack ass in front of us was stopping so quick.

Mom crush
wishing an older woman was your own mother
Example: Mrs. Peterson is so sweet and she always sends care packages to Henry. I think I have a mom crush on her.

Oy, Moms!

There are all kinds of moms. There are those moms who believe in letting their kids find their own way in the world. There are those moms who micromanage the lives of their children. And then...there are Jewish moms. Their uniquely wonderful brand of love has been documented before, but Geri Brin has taken it to a whole new level.

Confronted with an unmarried 31-year-old son, she took it upon herself to start a section of her site dedicated to finding him the perfect wife. Meddling? Perhaps? Adorable? Definitely. Check out the link for their segment on the Today show and click on over to her site if you think you've got the perfect lady for Colby.

80s Flashback!

All-around awesome blog The Awl points out that today is the 25th anniversary of the Live Aid mega charity concert. They've even pulled together tons of the performance videos from YouTube. If it's as rainy today where you are as where we are, or you're bored on bed rest or maternity leave, or you just have a craving for some Sade, click on over to The Awl to watch all of the old concert footage! It's the perfect kind of nostalgia for the new generation of moms who grew up with these 80s icons -- and someday, our kids will probably be doing the same thing with old Miley performances from Idol Gives Back!

Beat the Heat...with Delicious Drinks!

It's too hot in most of the country to even think about cooking. While we're sweating in front of fans, or basking in oases of air conditioning, or going to the movies as preventative medicine, the only thing we can think of that might satisfy our cravings and our internal thermometer is a smoothie!

Whip out those blenders, mamas, because Smoothies Recipe has about a billion recipes for delicious smoothies--and user ratings for every one! They range from tasty (this Chocolate Strawberry one sounds absolutely delectable) to odd (Broccoli? Really?) but there's something there to satisfy every summery sweet tooth.

Stay cool!

Betsy Ross - One Tough Mama

It's an American habit to scrub clean the ones we love. In Betsy Ross's case, however, there's plenty to admire in the scruffier original. In fact, that pragmatic capitalist mom is more authentically American than any character a storybook writer could dream up.

So says this article from Slate about Betsy Ross, famous for sewing America's first flag. Though her myth has made her seem like a delicate, shy seamstress, the truth is much cooler. The real Mama Ross was a tough, three-times-widowed businesswoman with guts and spunk. Happy fourth of July to the real Betsy Ross, and to all of the tough mamas we know!
