Happy Halloween!!!

Halloween weekend is finally here! Sure, it is meant for kids to enjoy- the dressing up, the candy, the scary movies...but who says that we adults can't relish in this holiday too?

We at Moody Mamas looove Halloween because it incorporates two of our favorite things, costumes and sweets! A lot of pregnant women feel worried about going out on Halloween because it often involves dressing in costume (which a lot of you are not in the mood to do) or you have to deal with lots of drunk people which is not as fun when you have to remain sober! Therefore, staying at home, eating candy and watching a scary movie marathon might just be what the doctor ordered. In honor of this fabulous holiday, here are some fun, spooky, scary Halloween movies to watch in case you don't feel like dressing up this year.

1. The Rocky Horror Picture Show- not scary but with this week's Glee shout-out Susan Sarandon in the early years and awesome music, how can you go wrong?
2. The Shining- if you want to play with Danny "forever, and ever, and ever"
3. The Exorcist- this stuff is real, 'nuff said
4. Children of the Corn- don't watch this if you live alone on a farm or are afraid of corn
5. Pet Cemetery- if you want to enjoy movie night with your pet...or not
6.Halloween- because the title is apropos
7. Nightmare on Elm Street- especially scary if you actually live on Elm Street
8.The Silence of the Lambs- so scary, you might want to have a popcorn bag to hide behind
9. Dawn of the Dead - kind of like Thriller, but movie version
10. Scream (parts 1-??)- not so scary but will make you happy you have a cellphone rather than a landline.

Have a wonderful, safe, and delicious Halloween weekend!!

Baby Diva!

After months of speculation, Ms. Mariah has publicly announced her pregnancy! How exciting for her and her hubby, though we can't say that we are surprised- she had that glow, her belly was looking a little more rotund than normal, and her hubby kept making statements like, "when she wants everyone to know, she'll tell them"...a.k.a. "My wife is pregnant but I can't be the one to tell you".

Everyone loves a juicy secret, but why do we feel we deserve to have this knowledge? Isn't it Mariah's right to keep her pregnancy to herself for as long as she wants? We're not all celebrities but we're sure a few of you have dealt with this issue -to tell, or to keep mum.

Usually, people feel cautious about celebrating their pregnancy until the first three months have been completed. After that point, complications are less likely. However, some people choose to wait a little longer and in the case of Mariah, we think that is her prerogative.

Do you feel pressure to tell people the sex of your baby, or your baby's name? These are all private matters but for some reason, we feel obligated to share this information with everyone who asks. We say, like Mariah, don't share until you feel ready!!

What's in a name?

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet"
-Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, 1600.

What matters is what something is, not what is is called; but, when dealing with a future child's name, we tend to get a little particular. Why? Well, generally speaking the name could last a lifetime, unless one takes legal action. Therefore, it makes sense to choose wisely.

Picking your child's name is something that most of us have been preparing for since childhood. We name our dolls, we name our pets, sometimes we even name our favorite objects such as our special blankets or sweaters. All of these names seem to come to us so easily when there is no pressure, however, when it finally comes time to make the big decision of naming our children- we suddenly draw a blank. Take Celine Dion for example- poor lady just gave birth to twins a few days ago and now she has to deal with the daunting task of naming not one, but two boys and figuring out if she wants to go with a French name or an English one...Decisions, decisions! No wonder they are being called Baby#1 and Baby #2 !

Choosing a name is a very meaningful experience which requires commitment and passion, so it is best to start thinking of a few of your favorites in advance. Kind of like having a set of cliff notes, when you have a few names in mind, you'll feel less pressure when the birth day finally arrives. Things to think about:

1)Have you ever had an association with a certain name- for example, " All Brad's are hot" or "Buhla is such an old lady name"? Having a positive or negative connotation can really come into play when it is time to finally give your newborn a name- so think lovely thoughts:)

2) Family names- Ok, ok...your husband is John Henry William Doe VII and you feel pressure to name your son " blank blank blank the eighth"...While, you might feel like you have to give in, it is perfectly fine for you to have mind of your own and to want to "take the road not taken". Just be polite and say while you think it is a glorious name, you would like to start a new family tradition or come up with something else that sounds just as nice...

3) Hollywood names are cool but sometimes they are just that ...cool . For example, "Apple" is an interesting name and it might really suit Miss Apple Martin, but will it work for your baby? In some cases, it just might, but remember this is a commitment we are talking about, not a passing phase...

4) Spelling! The way a name is spelled and pronunciated can change the end product entirely. For example, Caroline or Carolynn , Alice or Elise, Genny or Jenny... If you want your child's name to be pronounced in the obvious way, choose the obvious spelling. If you like a particular spelling for a name that can sound differently due to the way you are spelling it -understand that your child might have to correct people for the rest of his/her life, which is fine! However, coming from a person who had "special" spelling , this might not be the best choice.....just saying!

*Remember the old adage, " you can pick your own nose but you can't pick your friends nose"...same idea rings true when picking your child's name so stick with a name you wouldn't mind having yourself!

Costume Time!

Halloween is coming this weekend and if you don't have a costume to wear, better look now! We know it can be tough trying to think of apropos outfits to wear when preggers so here are 5 cute Halloween ideas in case you are on the hunt:

1.That glow, those curves, you look like a goddess right now-so dress up like one! A grecian/roman goddess outfit is perfect for the mom-to-be who is feeling other-wordly!

2. Having some pre-natal mood swings and feeling a little wicked? We have the perfect costume for you. Being a witch will let you "be evil" and get away with it!

3. Looking to dress up but want to keep it simple? This idea is an easy one and can even be a DIY project! Dress as yourself- a "Mom-to-Be" but take it up a notch with a tiara and sash a la "Miss America". Still have that Bachelorette sash from your pre-marriage days? Turn it inside out, add some puffy glitter writing and voila costume and money saved!

4. Do you have a good sense of humor about your belly or are a big sports fan? Fortunately for you, you have a built in accessory this year. Use your belly to become a basketball, baseball or a soccer ball and then wear the appropriate sports outfit accordingly. This one is sure to win over the hubby!

5. A heavenly choice for the mom-to-be: an angel. Given that "carrying a gift from heaven", this one is particularly appropriate!

Are we missing some good ideas? Send them in to: moodymamasblog@gmail.com

Monday, Monday...

Well, it's Monday again! Even though Monday's can be tough, if you look at them in a positive way, you can think of Monday as a to have a fresh start. Last week wasn't so great? On Monday if you set yourself up to have a good week and picture yourself as being successful and accomplished, your goals for a nice week just might come true!

In fact, studies have shown positive thinking can greatly effect pregnancy. Yes, it is common to feel sluggish, unattractive and bloated when pregnant, but sometimes you just have to try to trick your mind to overcome those bad sentiments. Not feeling comfortable in your body today? Trick yourself into feeling good by putting on a cute outfit. Overwhelmed about this weekend's baby shower? Take two minutes to put on your favorite song and belt it out. Shifting yourself away from a negative state of mentality can sometimes make you feel a little better. Not always, but sometimes. And if all else fails, grab a bar of chocolate!

Wonder how we have suddenly turned so philosophical? We are new subscribers to an online "multi-vitamin" for your soul, called The Daily Love. This fantastic little site, provides morsels of inspiration and texts of wisdom on a daily basis for free. Since we are now feeling a little more zen, we want all you pregnant ladies out there to get happy as well! Here is a little quote to remind you that though pregnancy is tough, take time to enjoy this part of your life's journey:

" Happiness is to be found along the way, not at the end of the road, for then the journey is over and it is too late. Today, this hour, this minute is the day, the hour, the minute for each of us to sense the fact that life is good, with all of its trials and troubles and perhaps more interesting because of them"
-Robert R. Updegraff

Aren't you feeling better already??

Also, on a positive note-Celine Dion and Matt Damon both had their kiddies this weekend! Congrats to both of them and their families. We think that the picture above looks like the face Celine was making when she was pushing those twins out! Ooooooh!!!

Have a happy, healthy Monday!

Sugar Daddies

Seeing a recent picture of Josh Duhamel and Jerry O'Connell playing with Jerry's children made us remember how great it is to see men having fun with their kids. So often in the celebrity world, it is the woman who is pictured with her kiddos, so we were happily surprised to them all enjoying some time together.

As most of you are preparing for your new arrival, have you and your spouse come up with a plan for taking care of the baby? This is probably something that should be taken into consideration when thinking about your post-baby schedule. Hey, if Mario Lopez has to adjust his work out schedule due to his new baby, then it must be a necessity!

Speaking of necessity, are you in the market for some new fall maternity clothes but are a little cash strapped? Great news! Beginning today until October 23, Moody Mamas is on sale on Totsy.com. We are practically giving away our clothes!! Go check it out and let us know what you think!

Friday!!!

It's the start to a beautiful fall weekend! We don't know about you but we think it is time to do the closet switchover...still too early for turtlenecks we think but we are really starting to see people enjoying the fall fashions.

Speaking of fall fashions, we met up with some very fashionable ladies an event held at the Peninsula Hotel yesterday. The event was in honor of a new pre-natal package they are debuting and it sounds amazing! Three massages, preggatinis, and other accoutrements created to serve as the perfect "push gift" for the mom-to-be! We're not currently preggers, but we'll take the package anyway! How does one properly thank someone for dealing with pregnancy and having your child? All that work does deserve a little more than a "thank you" and a kiss on the cheek! In England, it is commonplace for a woman to get gifted with a ring and in India, gold is often given, but what do we do in the US? Well, we don't have a traditional gift, so it is about time to clue in the men and ask for something special! Here are some of our favorite push gifts that we think you deserve if you are in the market...

-a special nightie to bring to the hospital that is great for nursing. We have a few great options in our collection at http://www.moodymamas.com/

- a special pendant in honor of your newborn

- a weekend get a away

- a baby nurse for a few nights a week- if you can afford this one, you can consider it a gift for the both of you!

-a massage like the one at the Peninsula

-a picture album with pictures of your newborn and some special moments of your life P.B. (pre-baby)

- special "coupons" for a night out with the girls, a massage or other nice things that you can bestow to your love one for free!
Enjoy the weekend!!

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry??

Happy Friday!!!

After much debate, scientists are saying that a little booze when you're preggers is not so bad after all!

Obviously, you should still be cautious about not over-doing it, but studies are saying a little wine or bubbly- once or twice a week is A-Ok for baby.

Even more interesting, the study showed that children whose mothers drank a little something while preggers, actually had higher cognitive scores than those whose moms had abstained. So, if you are at a party and want to "fit in", feel free to sip and enjoy moderately.

Be careful not to drink too much because over-ingestion can lead to birth defects and other dangerous health issues, so be safe not sorry.

Another reason to not over do it? Falling like Ms. Mariah did at her recent concert in Singapore...Woops! Could have been the lethal combo of stilettos and champagne.

Not only do we have big news on the health side of pregnancy, but we also have big maternity fashion news!! Moody Mamas is set to release a capsule collection for a special discount retailer in the next coming weeks. This collection will range from $30-$49.99 and will be just as comfy and fabulous as our high end line. Look forward to twitter parties, giveaways and more in honor of this gorgeous and affordable collection!

Have a wonderful weekend!!

Lacy and Racy!

And people say that "mommy" fashion is boring? Look at these fabulous ladies sporting the trendy "lace" look...while some are sporting it in a classy and demure way, others are wearing it in a less sophisticated manner. As we mentioned earlier, we are not too fond of the see through/lingerie look, but we do like it when done tastefully a la Alicia and Ali.

What do you think? Are you gals going to be sporting the lace trend this season?

This season, so many of the fall trends have the ability to misfire. For example, the long skirt. We find it difficult to wear to the long skirt without looking uber conservative, yet some people can do it and look amazing. Another one of these "difficult to wear" trends is the over-the-knee boot. Looove the over-the-knee boot! However, sometimes, it can look a little risque when worn during the day with a short skirt, or the wrong pants.

We would love to help you all flex your fashion muscles correctly! Let us know what current fashion style is a must but could be a bust if not executed correctly. We are here for you! Call us Brit! Happy TGI (almost) F!!!

Oh to be a kid again...

Recently, we were reading up on some of the hottest toys for kids and started feeling pangs of jealousy. Oh to be a kid again! There are so many things about being a kid that we took for granted and wish we could re-live ie. playtime and naptime. Imagine how much better your work day would be if it was broken up in a manner that was similar to pre-school: morning play, snack, nap time, lunch, afternoon play, nap time, snack, go home. Man, it is just sometimes depressing realizing that those days are gone. Well, I guess we have retirement to look forward to...
Childhood dreams of eating delicious and mal-nutricious foods such as ice cream sundaes and Cool Ranch Doritos made us start thinking how lucky you ladies are that you can indulge in (almost) whatever you like when you are pregnant! No cliche, it's true that certain senses are heightened when you are pregnant so certain types of foods seem to smell and taste better at this time. Honey dipped chocolate doughnuts, pizza topped with macaroni and cheese, these are things that your body may crave right now, and you have the "pregnancy right" to eat them without that "guilty" feeling you normally have as an adult.

We want to hear the good, the weird, and the outright disgusting, types of strange concoctions that you have been craving lately! Here are some of the most interesting food combos we have been seeing on the web. Beware: if you are feeling the least bit nauseous you might not want to read below:
*green banana with bacon and mayo sandwich
*raw spaghetti noodles soaked in pickle juice
*olives with jalapeno on caramel swirl ice cream
*peanut butter on top of a hamburger topped with slices of onion
*grapes combined with potato chips and cheetos on top of an ice cream sandwich

To share some of your favorite combos, or weird concoctions enter where it says "comments" below! The most "interesting" recipe will get a 25 % off discount card for www.moodymamas.com. As Rachael Ray says, "Yum-O!"

Day 2 of the Halloween Giveaway!!

Today is exciting day because we are off to style Jen Schefft Waterman for her upcoming "Us Weekly" Shoot. She will be wearing a Moody Mamas outfit for the special event of course:).
Jen is gorgeous and looks great in everything we put her in. She is one of those lucky ladies with a great figure and actually "glows". For the shoot, we will be using pieces from our collections that are available on www.nordstrom.com and www.moodymamas.com so you too will be able to dress like this fabulous gal! Still not sure how best to accessorize her...any ideas? We have been seeing so many awesome hot fall trends and want to make sure we hit the mark. This is "Us Weekly" after all...

Speaking of "Us Weekly"...we are seeing an interesting fashion trend lately on pregnant mega-stars that we think is courageous- the see-through maternity top. Ms. Cruz is sporting this style in the upper right picture. Yes, she looks fabulous in anything, but we are not so sure about the see-through look when you are pregnant. We are all for looking sexy and we believe that you should strut your stuff when preggers, but it kind of looks like she is wearing her lingerie to the airport- which is just a strange concept. What do you guys think? Would you wear this shirt to run errands or out to the playground with the kids? A PTA meeting? If you vote yes, be on the lookout for a similar look next season!!

Lastly, keep entering our Halloween giveaway contest! We are loving the pics you ladies are sending us!!
