Seeing Double!

Congrats to Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon who revealed that they are having twins! Ms. Carey will be joining the list of famous celebrity moms like Celine Dion, Sarah Jessica Parker, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie and Jennifer Lopez all who got lucky twice!

A growing trend, having mulitples is not only a "Hollywood" thing. Fertility drugs and the increasing number of women having children at an older age are making multiple pregnancies more common. Though having twins can mean "double the trouble", it also means "double the fun" which is why so many women desire multiple pregnancies Though the following tips are by no means proven ways to conceive multiples here are some fun wives tales and truisms about increasing your odds of a multiple birth naturally:

* Eat yams. According to some theories, there are certain cultures that have more twins than others and it could be attributed to the amount of yams they consume. Though this is not proven in science, some people believe that yams contain a chemical that helps women have twins. We're not so sure about this one...the food that comes to our minds regarding the "yam" theory?Bologna!

* Be a twin. If you were lucky enough to be a twin, you are more likely to produce them yourself. If you are not a twin, there is not too much you can do to change that. Sorry!

* Come from a family of twins or multiples. If you come from a family where multiples are common (mostly on the maternal side), then you have an increased chance of conceiving twins naturally.

* Breastfeed while pregnant. Not only will you have "Irish twins", you might have "Irish triplets". Some studies have shown that the depletion of calcium in your system while nursing, can effect the egg during conception and ovulation causing it to separate.

Once again, most of these methods are not tried and true, however it is all in good fun so go ahead and indulge in a sweet potato or two if you want to try for tri!

Have a wonderful Thursday!

xoxo,
