We have heard of a baby being born on the side of the road on the way to the hospital, but some women have delivered their babies or have gotten to the hospital in the strangest of ways. Take illusionist David Blaine and his fiancee who recently hitched a snow plow to get to the hospital. Though it is great to have a "birth plan", sometimes people are forced to improvise when it comes to labor and delivery. Here are some of the strangest places we heard of a baby being delivered!
* Baby on Board! Debbie Owen was within the flight regulation period when she went into labor early on a British Airways airplane. Lucky for her, there was a doctor on board, and she delivered her healthy baby girl, mid-air! (story found on www.guardian.co.uk).
* Talk about a public spectacle! A New York woman gave birth on Fifth Avenue just minutes away from where she was supposed to deliver. Passengers apparently cheered as nurses and doctors rushed to the scene to deliver not one, but two babies! Guess she was close, but no cigar. Good news is that both babies were born healthy and mom was A-ok! (story found on www.newsday.com)
* Born to swim! We've heard of little boys being nicknamed "shrimp" before, but we didn't think the name originated from a true story (probably not). Apparently a shrimp boat was out at sea, when the boat's chef went into labor. The boat captain used the twine to create a "net" as well as the boat's first aid kit to catch the baby and managed to deliver him! (story found on www.abc.com)
*Mc Baby! We are sure a lot of you have seen or heard of the popular show, "I didn't know I was pregnant", but have you heard about the lady who didn't know she was pregnant and gave birth to a baby at Mc Donald's? Most women have months to prepare for their childbirthing strategies, but this lady only had minutes! Story goes that the "surprised" expectant mom was working the nightshift at Mc Donald's when she experienced terrible stomach pains and ran to the bathroom. To her shock, this bellyache was anything but typical because she gave birth to a baby boy right over the toilet! (story found on www.wkrg.com)
